From the supplier: The US furniture industry is often inaccurately portrayed as a major contributor to the deforestation of tropical forests. An analysis of import statistics proves that this is hardly the case. The fact is that only 4% of such deforestation can be traced to the trade of tropical timber. And since the US accounts for just 4% of this trade, then the actual contribution of the furniture industry to deforestation is negligible since its share of US timber exports is only 30%. Translated, that means that the industry accounts for less than 0.05% of the deforestation occurring in tropical forests.
