Great book -
I think the book was very good. The suggestions for my clothing type, American Classic, were very helpful. I liked having the visual image of the jackets, pants, shirts, and bags that they recommended. That doesn't mean you have to buy a high end look to achieve the style, either. I don't have designer clothes hanging in my closet, and I still feel confident about mixing some of what I already have with things I know I'll buy in the future as I shop. I think naturally you lean in a certain direction with the clothes you like anyway. I also know to steer clear of certain clothes that may look good on other women but don't suit me personally, whether it's considered in style or not. I hadn't known exactly what I was, but it was interesting reading about it, and it was fun to read about the other styles. This book doesn't have everything. Some of the negative reviews have mentioned that, but it is a fun book full of useful information, and the visuals really appealed to me personally. I do wish each section had a bit more in it about each style before it moved to the next, which is why I gave it four instead of five stars, but it was a good book. I think it had to be about the specifics rather than cover everything the negative reviews were asking for. This book IS generally for women probably under 35 or so, but then the demographic of the magazine is younger women. I saw many clothing ideas that were wonderful, and you can certainly find cheaper clothing options that look similar to what they suggest in any of the styles. Some styles may be easier to find than others; as American classic I feel there are many options, and some are a little harder to find. But things do go in and out of style, so if suddenly it becomes more stylish to have ruffles and a sexier look, the bombshell style would have more success finding things, or if the bohemian look comes back in stores, that type person will have more success. Certainly some things go in and out of style where the book may not be relevant, but many people who suit one specific style overall will stick with that look over time no matter what comes into style down the road, and the suggestion is still there, even if the specific clothes might not be in fashion years from now. I think this book can still be useful then.

I'll break down the Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style, and you won't even have to flip through this book. Step 1) Be really thin and have no breasts, because you couldn't wear anything in this book with a bra. Step 2) Wear whatever the hell you like. Mix and match, call it edgy and no one will know the difference. Step 3) Buy your clothes at high-end retailers. Here, we helpfully added a shopping section in the front! But don't get your heart set on anything you see in this book because no matter how hard you look for it you'll never find it again, not even on eBay. Why? Because they probably never existed to begin with, otherwise we'd have listed shopping information or at least given the designer credit. Amazing what you can do with computers these days.

This book is an amazing reference tool! I discovered the first Lucky Shopping Manual a number of years ago and fell in love with it. It's been by my side ever since. I refer to it frequently, however, as years went by, I realized it didn't really contain my style so much. My ideal style is a combo of Mod, Bohemian, and Arty Slick. This book has broken out several different styles for me to refer to. I've started getting pieces from the recommendations and have referred to the online store sites, however, they are much to pricy for me, so I've found some of my own. I've looked through quite the variety of fashion books and magazines and I've never found anything that was organized and appealing as this book. Excellent layout, great photography.

I read a few reviews for this book and decided to borrow it from the library before buying it. I'll save my pennies on this one. Unfortunately this one was a disappointment though it had been recommended. Perhaps it might have been better had it included how the different body types could successfully wear the various styles. I didn't find a style that I identified with or a body type that matched mine.

This is an entertaining and helpful book. It's fun figuring out which of the ten iconic looks suit my friends, family, and myself the best. If one look alone doesn't have everything you can combine two looks to create your own style. Other books on fashion usually have five or six looks described briefly, but this one has ten explained in detail, so it's more diverse and informative. Because there are ten looks this book has something for women of various lifestyles, ages, and figure types.
Each look has color photos of essential pieces with accessories and shows you how to put it together, so it's easy to skim through it and decide which looks you prefer. Also, two or three women are profiled for each look showing items they chose to achieve it. Often their choices are more interesting than the pieces the editors chose! If their choices were included in the essential pieces the looks would be more appealing. This is especially true of the Bohemian look where the essential pieces are baggy, shapeless but the clothes belonging to the women profiled are striking.
The only other criticism I have is that some of the looks don't have outfits for every occasion; that is, at least one casual outfit, an every day outfit, a suit for a career, and an evening outfit, all with appropriate accessories.
