This was very detailed about every aspect of plumbing in easy to follow steps and broken into sections for quick finding. A must have for any DIY home repairman or for upgrades. My dad even thought it was quite detailed and we are currently going through renovations on their house to replace the plumbing.

Not too shabby - 
I am a real plumber, and I bought this as a bit of a reference guide. For the beginner or the DYI at home person that does not know much its a awesome book. A lot of pictures and a lot of instruction on how to do this and that. For me I was really hoping that it would have had a lot more plumbing codes(a section would of been nice). Also I think a reference section on pipes and their relevant information(how often you have to brace them,and so forth)could of been touched on more.
Also I don't also recall it telling some plumbing no-no's which is bad for the home DYI'er such as galvanic corrosion and such. I think more mentions of these would have been helpful for letting a non-mechanically and knowledgeable individual from making costly future mistakes.
But for the amount of colorful pictures and explanations, I think it is a fabulous book, but if your an actual plumber, I think it could only be used as a slight reference.

The guide helps you not only understand the plumbing in a home but helps with common and some uncommon repairs and even goes as far as installation for upgrades.
The book starts with simple concepts of plumbing and how plumbing works in your home from the connections into the house to fixtures and appliances. The guide goes from simple repairs and installations to tools and types of plumbing materials and connections.
The Complete Guide To Plumbing helps you not only understand your homes pipes and drains but shows you how common plumbing runs through a house. They explain with detailed pictures and cut away's of fixtures how they work so you understand the internal workings of everything related to your homes plumbing.
This book is not only for the do it yourselfer or people wanting to fix up their homes plumbing and pipes but for any home owner who wants to know about their home. Every home owner should have this book, or one like it, because you should know what happens when you flush your toilet or turn on your shower.
It is important to know the internal working of your home and how they work in order to protect yourself when you do need to call for a plumber. In order to know what they are going to do and charge you for you have to know what they are talking about, knowledge is power in many things.

You can take this knowledge and at least have some ammunition against a craftsman who is working on your home to know what they are doing and if they are doing the job correctly. This book is also for the novice or even partially informed do it yourselfer who wants to know more and wants a handy reference with plenty of pictures diagrams.
The guide has plenty of step by step sections on plumbing repairs, fixture repairs and even installations for a better understanding of plumbing. The guide has a great section to help you understand how your homes drains, supply and individual branches work as well as vents to complete the how to's of your home.
They even include charts for pipe sizes according to fixtures and appliances as well as diagram symbols and help with getting a permit for plumbing work. The guide helps you to work on existing plumbing as well as plumbing upgrades and remodeling so you can get the most from your home.
Not only repairs are looked at in depth but new innovations in plumbing such as flexible tubing called PEX and the now standard PVC tubing. The guide helps with new types of fixtures like freeze proof faucets and jetted tubs as well as the standard and older faucets and fittings.
The book goes in depth about venting and how every drain line needs air in when soiled water is going down even for island sinks which can be tricky with a new installation. Good Plumbing Text -
This book provides good information for basic plumbing situations. I bought the book because it supposedly had information regarding PEX; however, it is minimal at best and provides no real useful insight. Buy it for the basic plumbing guidelines but do not buy it for PEX or gas line information. If you do, you will be disappointed.

This is the second Black & Decker Complete Guide that I've used to good effect in my battle to overcome being born and raised as the quintessential not handy guy while tending to as much of the care and feeding of our 1930s-era home as I can.
I"m not there yet.
But it certainly isn't the fault of this fine guide, which majors on visuals. The look-here's-what-you'll-find-under-your-sink-and-we'll-tell-you-about-it-in-a-minute approach pretty much hits the nail on the head. In my case I was unable to fix a water heater and sink trap completely by myself. But I was able to get up to speed on the problem, understand the parts that would be required, and how to minimize the plumber's time when I eventually had to call him for help.
The book deals with how to plan your plumbing project, the tools and materials you'll need, new installations, replacing old plumbing, and repairing existing plumbing. It'll take you to your bathroom, your kitchen, your faucets, your toilets, and a raft of other places where after flows the way it's supposed to and/or the way it's not.
Highly recommended.
