Not Impressed -
I ordered this book based on the good reviews and I'm not sure why it received so many good reviews. The patterns were not attractive nor very original. I returned the book. There are many better books out there.

A Book for Real Knitters - A Gem!! -
This is a quintessential knitter's book. It is wonderful in all respects. It is filled with stories, vignettes, patterns and knitting history and mythology.
If you're looking for a good pattern, whether a piece of clothing or a festive lantern, you'll find it here. If you're looking to find out more about knitting's social history or stories about knitters, you'll find that as well. There are resources galore and the book is fun to open up and read - - again and again.
There is a wonderful section on color and how colors can be varied in one pattern for different results. The mystery of the steek is unveiled enough for me to actually try one.
I plan on knitting the grocery bag, the boy's skater's sweater, the cardi cozy, the knitted plain shawl, the green coat, the Kiki Mariko Rug, the Liberty Throw and the Baby Dotty. When and if I come up for air, I'll have a wonderful set of gifts for the loved ones in my life. I'll also have this book to look at again and again and a stash of wool left over from these projects which I'm sure I can put to good use.

A little different -
Mason Dixon Knitting is a different type of knitting book. While it has beautiful patterns and photographs, it also has stories and comments that make this book much more than a pattern book. It has, of course, patterns for sweaters, shawls, hats for adults and children, but it also has home decorative items and even some patterns for practical potholders and "Swifter" covers. My favorite pattern is the Mystery Sweater, which is the most unique I have seen. It is, quite literally, a sweater with a message, and you can make your own message for it. Lovely stories and comments by the authors add to the charm of this book and make it stand out among knitting books.
Refreshing -
An enjoyable variety of new information, patterns and designs, and personal exploration history and growth in the authors' cultural knowledge common to the history of women (and men) who enjoy the needle crafts vital in the development of our country and society (often shared with those activities in other parts of the world). A delightful followup to their first " Mason-Dixon " publication.

poor directions -
This book is fun to browse through and dream,but........several patterns have corrections .....and the ones that don't are difficult at best with two or three good to advanced knitters trying to figure out what they mean.
I would NOT buy this book.
